"Enter HaSkaLA! A brand-spankin'-new haven't-even-cracked-the-owner's-manual-yet ska band from LA... So sparkly new (their second show ever was the show on the 25th in Carson City)... with the emphasis both on showmanship (including dress code) and on musicianship. HaSkaLA's got this down: they write songs that are eminently danceable. In a nutshell, HaSkaLA is fun. Frontman Steve takes the stage with his eyes ringed with kohl, clad in a burka, which is quickly shed... About last night... Welp. How can I say this politely? It was the GREATEST %^&%^&$!!! night in HaSkaLA's short life! At our 4th show ever! Lead singer of Fishbone, Angelo Moore (my childhood hero, the man who has provided me with endless fuel & fire, and gifted me with innumerable black-eyes in incalculable mosh-pits), the man didn't just hang onstage and skank to our entire set at The Vans Warped Tour. During our encore he hopped up and sang an epic, certifiably insane ten minute version of "Party at Ground Zero" with us. One which with be ringing sweetly in my ears on my death-bed! We exchanged flips & rolls onstage and he told us "we were some crazy, Crazy, CRAZY Muthers". (For a loyal Fishbone Soldier I consider this the highest praise possible!) The smiles say it all.
